Thames are . . .   *  Tough  *  Humble  *  Adoring  *  Merciful  *  Everlasting  * Savior Devotees *

THE THAMES’ Have adopted this as our song. This is our EXPERIENCE SUMMUMED UP IN One SONG. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Gospel Singer Mahalia Jackson, born in 1911, Sung “How I got Over,” released in 19??

We welcome you with open arms in experiencing the history of your people.

We originated in Africa and we were brought to America by force. Whether we spell our names as T-H-A-M-E-S or have changed the spelling of Thames to T-I-M-M-S, or T-E-M-M-S, our modern history is in Mississippi, and now we have scattered all over the United States. We live in almost half of the states in the US, including Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington State, Washington DC, and Wisconsin. Even so we've gone so far we are still proud to say we are a Thames!

This website was created because of the 2018 Thames Family Reunion in Atlanta, which was organized by Stephanie Thames-Harris, who is the 7th generation on the Francis Line. She is the oldest daughter of Jerry and Berdia Thames. The family reunion historian, her youngest sister, Tiffany Thames-Copeland, created and maintains the website. Tiffany hopes the website can be maintained and continued through the generations. Please send Tiffany any additional information, you would like have added to the site about yourself or our family. She would be happy to hear from you. Her e-mail address is [email protected] or you can text or call her at (202) 705-0924.

Mostly all of the information gathered for this website was originally accumulated by Callie Hubbard, the granddaughter of Callie Thames, along with her collaborator Bennie Lee Harris, Ph.D.  Callie also used Kim Thames of Westland Michigan as a source.

Warning: Many people in the Thames family line from different generations were born with the same names, which makes it somewhat confusing when looking into one's family history. To mitigate this, Tiffany has decided to call the people with the same names the I, II, and the III, under a specific line.

Please Note: The association of the Thames letters was created by Shirley Moore Wallace, the daughter of Mattie Lee Thames and Jack Thames. The concept of the Thames having RSS, resiliency, survival, and success was created by Tiffany Thames-Copeland during her speech at the 2018 Atl Thames Family Reunion. She also associated the Mahalia Jackson song, "How I Got Over," to the Thames family history.
